We had a full house for the speaker at our 29th February meeting, who was well-known local historian Jim Ness. Jim, now retired, was a geography teacher at Biggar High School and Sanquhar Academy. He is now a volunteer archivist with Biggar Museum, a digger with the Biggar Archaeology Group, creator of the photographic archive at J A Cuthbertson Engineering and uuthor of 'The Lost Mills of South Lanarkshire' and 'Historical Guide to Biggar High Street'. He hasn't let the grass grow under his feet!!
His talk was based on his recent book, an 'Historical Guide to Biggar High Street', explaining how the street we see today has evolved over the last 200 years. Jim showed us his marvellous collection of old photographs and told lots of interesting anecdotes about the local worthies, now long gone.
